Seven of the eight quarterfinalists at the Tokyo Pan Pacific Open are within striking distance of a chance to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore. The Top 8 players on the final Road to Singapore Leaderboard will qualify for the year-end event, with three players already securing a spot – Serena Williams, Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova. Five spots remain up for grabs with less than 30 days until the start of WTA Finals.
There is still an opportunity to add 3,120 Road to Singapore Leaderboard points. With 470 points going to the champion this week in Tokyo, four of the quarterfinalists have a chance to move into the Top 8 on Monday depending on this week’s results – Garbine Muguruza (RTS #10), Agnieszka Radwanska (RTS #11), Belinda Bencic (RTS #12) and Caroline Wozniacki (RTS #14).
Meanwhile, Ana Ivanovic (RTS #22) entered the week trailing the No.8 spot by less than 900 points. With strong results in the Asian swing, she could vault from No.22 into the Top 5 of the Leaderboard if she continues her winning ways. A title this week could move Ivanovic as high as No.13 on the RTS Leaderboard.
