Kvitova Qualifies, Bouchard Next?

Canadian closes in on WTA Finals

On Saturday, Petra Kvitova booked her place at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global in some style, winning her third title of the season, at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open title.

Victory in China brought Kvitova 900 ranking points, ensuring that she returns, alongside the first three qualifiers - Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep - to the WTA Finals for the fourth successive year.

Barring an improbable sequence of results, the next spot in Singapore looks likely to go to her victim in the Wuhan final, Eugenie Bouchard, who currently occupies the No.5 spot on the Road To Singapore leaderboard.

This final appearance took Bouchard to 4,486 points and ahead of Agnieszka Radwanska and Ana Ivanovic, who had occupied fifth and sixth place heading into Wuhan.

Of course, all of this could change again over the next seven days, as Bouchard, Radwanska, Ivanovic and the other contenders for the four remaining WTA Finals berths head to Beijing for the calendar's final Premier Mandatory, the China Open.

Another final appearance for Bouchard - and also Radwanska, for that matter - will guarantee a place at the season-ending showpiece, while Ivanovic and the in-form Caroline Wozniacki can do the same should they pick up the title.

Looking in from the outside at present are Angelique Kerber, Jelena Jankovic, Ekaterina Makarova and Flavia Pennetta, all of whom need deep run in the Chinese capital to cling onto their slim qualifying hopes.
