The singles field is set at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, so now the storyline turns to draw placement.
The Top 2 players on the Road To Singapore leaderboard will be in separate round robin sections. And the Top 2 in each group after round robin play will advance to the semifinals, with first place in Group 1 playing second place in Group 2 and vice versa. Then the winners will face off in the final.
Maria Sharapova clinched the No.2 spot with her triumph in Beijing, therefore she will be in a separate group than World No.1 Serena Williams, whom she has lost 15 straight matches to. Interestingly enough, though, Sharapova's last victory over Williams came in the championships match of the WTA Finals in 2004.
The other six spots in Singapore will be filled by Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Eugenie Bouchard, Agnieszka Radwanska, Caroline Wozniacki and Ana Ivanovic.
Still in the running for the last two spots in the doubles draw are Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro, Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova, and Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta. The latter two teams are in the draw this week in Tianjin.
Already qualified are Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, Cara Black and Sania Mirza, Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, and Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.
