Last week, we gave you an update on Nicole Tan, the first U16 regional winner from Singapore who participated in the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. This week, we will catch up on Ashley Yim, Singapore’s U14 winner last year. Yim defeated players from Vietnam and Taipei, but failed to advance out of the round robin stage. Since participating in the WTA Finals Future Stars event, where she was Singapore’s flag bearer, Yim has participated in more International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior events.
Ashley currently holds a career-high ranking of 904, which is second behind Tan in those representing Singapore. She has reached one singles quarterfinal and a doubles semifinal in her first year on the ITF Junior Circuit. In the beginning of 2014, Yim transferred to the Singapore Sports School, where she is a full-time player and student to enhance her skills on the court. She is ranked No.18 in the Singapore Women’s Open Singles Rankings and at just 15 years old, hopes to make her mark on the international tennis scene.
