LOCAL FUTURE STARS READY FOR SINGAPORE

Singapore hosted their Future Stars qualifying event, where two U14 qualifiers and two U16 representatives will play in front of local fans at the 2015 WTA Finals.

More qualifiers were finalized for the Future Stars event at the 2015 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global when Singapore hosted their qualifying tournament. Four local Singapore players will participate in the Future Stars tournament, with two participating in the U14 division and the other two being represented in the U16 event.

Tessa Wong is the first U14 qualifier from Singapore and she has previously represented Singapore in the 2014 Longines Future Aces Tournament at Roland Garros.She is currently ranked No.21 in the Singapore Women's Open rankings and plans to start competing in more ITF Junior events throughout Asia-Pacfic and in Singapore. The second U14 qualifier is Tammy Tan, who also plans on playing more ITF junior events and is currently ranked No.8 in the Singapore Women's Open rankings.

The U16 qualifiers are Yee Loon Goh and Charmaine Seah. Goh is currently ranked No.3 in the Singapore Open rankings and won a Singapore Women's Open title in 2014. She also represented Singapore in the 2014 Junior Fed Cup and won a round at an ITF Junior event in Singapore last year. Seah is ranked No.1 in the U16 Singapore rankings and is currently ranked No.1203 in the ITF Junior rankings. She is a two-time Singapore Women’s Open Singles Champion and has reached one doubles semifinal and one doubles quarterfinal on the ITF Junior Circuit.

The Future Stars program features competition for young girls across the Asia-Pacific region with a vision to promote high-level athlete development, health, fitness and empowerment of women through tennis. Eighteen markets in the Asia-Pacific were invited to take part in the 2015 WTA Future Stars program, hosting Under 14 and Under 16 qualifying events in the hopes of sending their best young players to Singapore.
