ROAD TO SINGAPORE: INDIAN WELLS PROJECTIONS

Indian Wells results lead to player movement on Road to Singapore Leaderboard

The BNP Paribas Open, the first Premier Mandatory event of the 2015 season, comes to an end this weekend. The semifinals are set with 1999 and 2001 Indian Wells champion Serena Williams taking on Simona Halep in a rematch of last year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore, while 2010 champion Jelena Jankovic will play Sabine Lisicki for a spot in Sunday’s final.

With a number of upsets in the early rounds of the tournament there will be some shake-up among the Top 8 for the RTS Leaderboard. Here is a look at the projections for the Top 8:

Williams will continue to hold onto her No. 1 spot on the Road to Singapore Leaderboard that she’s held since her Australian Open title if she beats Halep in the SF or if Halep finishes as runner-up.

Halep will be tied with Maria Sharapova for the No.2 spot with a semifinal showing, or take sole ownership at No.2 if she is runner-up.

With 20 match wins and two finals appearances, Karolina Pliskova has solidified her position at Indian Wells thanks to her Round of 16 showing at Indian Wells. The WTA Rising Star from the Czech Republic will enter Miami as the No. 4 player on the Leaderboard.

Carla Suarez Navarro, who reached her WTA-leading sixth quarterfinal in Indian Wells, will move into the Top 5 on the RTS Leaderboard unless Jankovic wins the title.

Ekaterina Makarova and Caroline Wozniacki will sit at No.6 and No.7, respectively, while Venus Williams will be No.8 unless Lisicki or Jankovic win the title.

Entering the week, neither Jankovic nor Lisicki were among the Top 100 on the RTS Leaderboard. A title for either would result in a move into the Top 8 with a finals appearance drastically improving their position entering Miami.

Next week, the Miami Open presented by Itau begins Tuesday with another 1,000 points on the line.
