The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today Agnieszka Radwanska has qualified for this year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. She joins Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, Garbiñe Muguruza and Petra Kvitova in the singles field of eight, with four more spots yet to be determined.
Radwanska will make her seventh appearance at the WTA Finals, where she has twice reached the semifinals - in 2012 and 2014. Last year, the fan-favorite defeated Kvitova in the round robin stage and advanced out of the group, eventually falling to Halep in the semifinal. She first competed at the WTA Finals as an alternate in 2008 and 2009 and has since qualified as part of the top 8 for five consecutive years (2010-15).
“I’m excited to play at the WTA Finals in Singapore this year,” said Agnieszka Radwanska. “I have good memories from playing in Singapore. The fans there are amazing, so I can’t wait to get out there and compete against the best players in the world.”
Radwanska’s season is highlighted by two WTA titles - at the Toray Pan Pacific Open (Tokyo) and Tianjin Open. She also reached the finals at the Aegon International Eastbourne and the semifinals at Wimbledon for the third time in the last four years.
Staged at the Singapore Sports Hub from October 23-November 1 in partnership with Lagardère Sports, the 2015 WTA Finals features the top 8 singles players competing for one of the most prestigious trophies in women’s tennis, the Billie Jean King Trophy, while the top 8 doubles teams will compete for the Martina Navratilova WTA Finals Doubles Trophy. With a record $7 million in prize money on the line, the round-robin singles competition will be the highlight of a 10-day tennis festival that will also include the WTA Legends Classic, WTA Rising Stars Invitational and a WTA Future Stars event.
