HALEP RISES TO NO.3 ON ROAD TO SINGAPORE LEADERBOARD

Simona Halep's triumph at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships propelled her to No.3 on the Road To Singapore leaderboard. Who else made big moves?

Last week the Road to Singapore traveled through Dubai and Rio de Janeiro.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, a Premier 5 event, marks the first big WTA event of the 2015 season with 900 Road to Singapore Leaderboard points on the line for the champion.

A finalist at the 2014 WTA Finals, Simona Halep captured her second WTA title of 2015, having also lifted the trophy at the Shenzhen Open in the first week of the season. With her 900-point grab in Dubai, Halep moves to No.3 in the RTS Leaderboard.

The Top 3 positions are occupied by players familiar with the WTA Finals. Five-time WTA Finals champion Serena Williams, 2004 champion Maria Sharapova join Halep to occupy the Top 3 spots.

WTA Rising Star Karolina Pliskova has been one of most consistent players on WTA this year reaching the semifinals or better at four Premier-level events: finalist at Sydney, third round at the Australian Open, semifinals at Antwerp and finalist at Dubai. With wins over former World No.1s Victoria Azarenka and Ana Ivanovic, Pliskova has positioned herself early in the year among the Top 8.

Yet to play since her semifinal effort at the Australian Open, WTA Rising Star Madison Keys, dropped from No.3 to 6.

Two former WTA Finals champions – Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams – round out to the Top 8 on this week’s Leaderboard.

This week the Road to Singapore travels to Doha for the Qatar Total Open and Acapulco, for the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL.

The Doha field will include Carla Suarez Navarro, currently No.9 in the RTS Leaderboard, fresh off a runner-up finish in Antwerp and a Dubai quarterfinal. Dubai semifinalists Garbine Muguruza and Caroline Wozniacki are next on the list at Nos. 10 and 11, respectively, but will look to improve their standings this week in Doha.

Meanwhile in Acapulco, Sharapova returns to action along with Madison Brengle (RTS No. 14), Daniela Hantuchova (RTS No. 16) and Rio de Janeiro champion Sara Errani (RTS No. 19).
