The semifinals in the doubles draw at the Miami Open have been set. The second Premier Mandatory event of the year, Miami awards 1,000 Road to Singapore Leaderboard points to the champion, and there will be plenty of movement on Monday’s Road to Singapore Leaderboard.
The first semifinal features the All-Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina against the All-Czech duo of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in a matchup of two two-time Grand Slam champion duos.
By reaching the semifinals, Hlavackova and Hradecka are projected to move to No. 9 by reaching the final four. The duo, who reunited in January could move into the Top 8 by reaching the final in Miami with a chance to climb into the Top 5 on the Road to Singapore Leaderboard.
Makarova and Vesnina have a chance to enter the clay court season atop the Road to Singapore Leaderboard. The can claim the No.1 spot if they win the title; they also have a chance to move to No.1 if they advance to the final, depending on other results.
Playing their second tournament together, Hingis and Mirza will move into the Top 8 after Miami, moving into the Top 3 by winning the title.
Meanwhile, Babos and Mladenovic have a chance to move to the top of the Road to Singapore Leaderboard, but would need to win the title in order to do so. Earlier this year, they captured the Dubai title and look to cement their position on the Leaderboard with another strong result this week in Miami.
The next release of the Road to Singapore Leaderboard is scheduled for Monday, April 6. The Top 8 doubles teams on the final Leaderboard qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore.
