ST PETERSBURG, FL, USA - World No.1 Simona Halep has won the 2017 Porsche Race to Singapore, sealing the No.1 spot on the Leaderboard and top seed at the prestigious BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
Each of the 57 tournaments (53 WTA events plus the four Grand Slams) leading into the WTA Finals represents one lap of the Porsche Race to Singapore, spread across 32 countries.
Throughout the 2017 season, 26-year-old Halep has amassed 5,675 points from 17 laps (i.e. tournaments), narrowly surpassing Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza by only 40 points.
Halep has enjoyed the best season of her career, and her incredible achievements this year culminated in her becoming the WTA World No.1 on October 9, and qualifying for the season-ending WTA Finals showpiece for the fourth time in her career.
The Romanian holds a 44-15 win-loss record in 2017, reaching three consecutive finals during the European clay swing winning the title at the Mutua Madrid Open, and runner-up finishes at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome) and Roland Garros. In addition, Halep was runner-up at the Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati) and the China Open (Beijing).
“It’s been an unbelievable season for me this year and being crowned winner of the Race to Singapore is a very proud moment,” said Halep. “I hope I can take the good form that has put me at the top of the Leaderboard into the upcoming WTA Finals and play my best tennis at the event.”

Additionally, Porsche has been the official automotive sponsor of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global since 2015.
