Though she didn't change spots on the Road To Singapore leaderboard, Simona Halep's eighth WTA title at the inaugural Bucharest Open in her home country of Romania earned her 280 points and put her within just 11 of Maria Sharapova for first place.
"What I wish for now is to get to Singapore and do an equally good job there," Halep said. "I want to play every match and every tournament to reach as high a ranking as possible."
Halep's terrific season has also included a title in Doha, runner-up showings at Madrid and Roland Garros, and semifinal outings at Indian Wells and Wimbledon.
Other movement in the race to secure one of the eight spots available at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global involved Bad Gastein semifinalist Sara Errani going from No.12 to No.11 and Bad Gastein champion Andrea Petkovic going from No.16 to No.14.
Last week's big news on the doubles front was Errani and Roberta Vinci securing the first of Singapore's eight available spots. This will be the third straight year the Italians will compete in the season finale, which goes from October 17 to 26.
