Who will join Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik as the latest to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global?
Five teams are still in the hunt to join the first six qualifiers - Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, Cara Black and Sania Mirza, Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, and Peschke and Srebotnik.
With significant ranking points on offer at this week's China Open, a deep run from any of the contenders could clarify the picture somewhat. In pole position at the moment are Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro, who can secure a berth by reaching the final. However, even if they fall earlier, an early exit for their closest rivals, Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova, will send them to Singapore.
One team that has done their chances no harm with their recent performances is Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta, who have emerged as unlikely contenders for a ticket to the season-ending showpiece thanks to a runner-up finish at the US Open and then winning the Wuhan title. Should they also triumph in the Chinese capital, Hingis and Pennetta will virtually guarantee qualification, although to make sure they will need results elsewhere to go their way.
And what of the rest? Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yaroslava Shvedova and Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic are still in with a mathematical chance of making it to Singapore, although their hopes rest heavily on slip-ups from their three rivals.
