The Road To Singapore launched this week and at three venues around the Asia-Pacific region the WTA stars were fighting to take the early lead in the year-long journey to the WTA Championships.
Perhaps it's only fitting that the Top 2 players in the world - World No.1 Serena Williams and World No.2 Victoria Azarenka - are No.1 and No.2 in the standings, respectively, on the Road To Singapore.
"Definitely it was exciting," Williams said after beating Azarenka in the Brisbane International final. "It wasn't an easy tournament to get through, and I'm happy to be standing next to the winner's trophy.
"Every time I win a tournament now I'm just really excited and happy."
It was Williams' 58th WTA title, but if history is anything to go by, she's not going to stop there - last year she won her 47th WTA title at Brisbane and then won 10 more WTA titles the rest of the year.
"Right now I don't want to become satisfied with all the titles and everything," Williams said. "I want to be able to keep going and keep winning. I'm just trying to do the best I can every time I play."
Azarenka looked impressive all week, and though she didn't come away with the title, she's still No.2 in the Road To Singapore standings now. Next week she'll try to win her third straight Australian Open.
"I haven't thought about it too much yet, but I never look at a tournament as defending something," Azarenka said. "I always want to just win another title, because that helps me to focus better on what I want to achieve. I have great memories from there, but it's important to just take it one day at a time."
There's a two-way tie for No.3 on the Road To Singapore standings - the two winners of this past week's International tournaments, Shenzhen champion Li Na and Auckland winner Ana Ivanovic.
Li has much bigger things in mind for the 2014 season, though - a very specific goal to work towards.
"I want to win another Grand Slam," she told the crowd after the Shenzhen final. "It's just like last year. When I said at the beginning of the season that I wanted to break into the Top 3 in the world, a lot of people - most people - didn't believe I could do it. But by the end of the year we had done it.
"This year I've set this new goal, so I'm going to tell everyone about it. My coach, Carlos, says if you're going to set a goal then you need to proclaim it - that way more people can guide you to achieve it. So I hope that I can win another Grand Slam title this year, because that's always been my goal."
And Ivanovic has often mentioned her desire to return to the Top 10 and qualify for this year's WTA Championships in Singapore - could her goals for 2014 come true? Only time will tell... stay tuned.
