RTS UPDATE:CIBULKOVA CONSOLIDATES - Cibulkova maintains No.2 position

Dominika Cibulkova has consolidated her No.2 position on the Road To Singapore leaderboard with victory in Acapulco.

Cibulkova was already in second place on the Road To Singapore leaderboard a week ago, but her success in México has now extended her lead over third from 69 to 349 points.

The Slovak, who earned 280 points for winning the International-level event, now has 1682 points - still some way away from Li Na's 2385, but now safely ahead of third place Simona Halep's 1333.

"It's just an amazing time for me," Cibulkova said after her Abierto Mexicano TELCEL triumph. "I had my first Grand Slam final in Australia and now I'm winning the title at such a nice tournament here. I've had some really tough matches and showed I'm a much better and more experienced player now.

"I'm 24 years old and I've been playing since I was eight years old. These moments are what you work for and what you dream of all your life - and tennis is my life now, and I just feel so happy."

Despite Cibulkova stretching her points lead, there is actually no movement among the top seven spots on the Road To Singapore leaderboard this week. There were some major movers just below that group, though - Klara Zakopalova shot up from 19th to ninth after winning the other International event last week in Florianopolis, and Garbiñe Muguruza rose from 18th to 11th after finishing runner-up there.

The biggest jump on the leaderboard as a whole came from Christina McHale, who went from 74th to 31st after reaching the first WTA final of her career in Acapulco, where she fell to Cibulkova.

"It was really nice to make my first WTA final here," McHale said. "I think this tournament is one of the nicest ones on the tour. It's a great tournament and the fans are amazing - they're really into it.

"I was happy with the way I fought today," the American added. "I think Dominika played really well today - I was just trying to stay with her. But hopefully there will be more finals to come for me."

There could be some more big moves on the Road To Singapore leaderboard next time - this fortnight sees the stars of the WTA head to Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open, the third of the 14 biggest stops on the Road To Singapore. The Premier Mandatory event offers 1000 points to the champion.
